Into the Grand Final

A great win against some in the side who clearly had plans to rattle us. We didn’t get rattled and our side showed why our club is well respected – we work hard not to get caught up in those antics.

A sunny day but with a strong gusty cold wind. A good crowd down to watch the game also.

The game started fairly tightly. Some good runs down the sides from Tass and Danksy and really just getting a feel for the other team. Really good marking from the backs kept them at bay. One good run down the left from Barry with a great cross to the far post to Dave was almost converted – just wide. Later Barry was involved again by keeping the ball in on the goal line and crossed and put in the back of the net. After a long discussion between refs and some hot air from both sides, the goal was disallowed being out. They went for a goal kick but that was quickly corrected by Jeff who informed the ref, that if it was out by us, then it must be a corner! The corner came across and Jeff on the far post got his big right boot onto it and played it down to the ground to bounced down and up and over the keepers outstretched arms. The under-rated bouncing ball made us 1-0 exactly on half time.

The second half was a mess. Whinging, whining and some strange calls spoilt what could have been a good second half of soccer. In the end it was really our side watching the clock to see when this second half of non-soccer would be over. They had a disallowed goal from a free kick but not long later Dave made the result guaranteed by putting through another goal. 2-0 going into the grand final.

Andrew had hardly anything to do again, which was great!

Well done boys. We showed some great composure! Laky, you’d be proud of us!
