Keith’s Closet

Keith’s Closet was started by Keith Donnelly a registered nurse specialising in mental health. Over his many years of service in his profession, he noticed that mental health consumers often had issues surrounding personal hygiene wearing the same clothes day-in and day-out with no or limited access to alternate clothing and undergarments. Keith wanted to create an opportunity that ensured all mental health consumers had access to various types of good quality clothing in times of need, whether in the admission unit or in the community.

With strong commitment to this vision and the support of his colleagues, family and friends, Keith’s Closet was started in January 2019 at Prince of Wales Hospital. A seclusion room within the admission unit was transformed into a boutique style area with a walk-in wardrobe, full length mirrors and a fitting room filled with heartfelt messages of love and affirmations.

The space has allowed people with mental health challenges to “look good and feel good” which in turn has boosted their confidence and self-esteem and most importantly given these consumers dignity and hope.

“With nice clothes I am once more equal to anyone. The new clothes give me a lot confidence I was lacking a mere 30 minutes ago.I feel I can even start organising for a job interview and restart my life.” – feedback at Kiloh Centre

With the initiative being a success in assisting in better outcomes for mental health consumer and helping the doctors and nurses working in the facilities to better treat the illness by building rapport between consumer and clinician, Keith now has a desire to expand Keith’s Closet to all mental health units nationwide.

Revesby Workers Football Club are getting behind Keith’s Closet by hosting an annual charity gala on April 26th 2020, where all proceeds will be donated to Keith’s Closet to help realising his vision and mission.
